Following the announcement of 2 October as the date for the Lisbon Treaty Referendum, we intend to mount a vigorous campaign of opposition to the Lisbon Treaty. We will campaign with other groups opposed to Lisbon who share a similar view to the Socialist Party.
The establishment will attempt to portray the vote on the Lisbon Treaty as a vote on whether or not we should be members of the European Union. That is not the issue here. The issue is whether we want the intensification of a right-wing neo-liberal agenda and the institutionalisation of the right of big business to drive down wages and conditions for workers and an increase of militarisation – all provided for in the Lisbon Treaty.
